Bangladesh is located on the map to the right in Southern Asia, on the coast of the Bay of Bengal [1].
This relatively newly-formed country suffers from widespread poverty (nearly half the population of 161 million people survives on less than $1 per day), and many citizens rely on the land and farming to survive [2].
As it is such a low-lying country, flooding is a common and dangerous issue, on top of the frequent storm surges, landslides, cyclones, and other natural disasters [3].
With a mix of poverty, extreme and damaging weather, and increasingly competitive international trade that hinders economic growth, Bangladesh has been (and will continue to) face many challenges as it struggles to improve and sustain the quality of living [5].
